The 2nd Tunnel (제2땅굴(철원))

457-7 Yangji-ri, Dongsong-eup, Cheorwon-gun, Gangwon-do

Overview

The 2nd Tunnel, one of several excavated by North Korea for the purpose of infiltrating South Korea, was discovered in 1975. Spanning a total length of 3.5 kilometers, only 500 meters of the tunnel is accessible to civilians. The 2nd Tunnel has been developed as a representative security tourism destination in Korea under the Iron Triangle Battlefield Development Plan and attracts many tourists every year. Inside The 2nd Tunnel, there is an Exhibition Hall where visitors can learn about the tunnel's structure and North Korea's invasion plans. The view of the DMZ from The 2nd Tunnel, which symbolizes the division of the Korean Peninsula, is breathtakingly beautiful.

Currently, the Cheorwon County Office operates the DMZ Peace Tourism Course, and in addition to The 2nd Tunnel, there are various other tourist attractions nearby, such as the Cheorwon Peace Observatory, the Monorail, and the Cheorwon Crane Park.
