Why it is one of the 100 famous mountains
Selected in consideration of its scenic beauty, numerous historic temples and cultural heritage sites, and its designation as a Provincial Park (1983). A large bamboo grove is located on the mountainside. It is famous for the historic Okcheonsa Temple and hermitages such as Yeondaeam, Baengnyeonam, and Cheongyeonam.
About Yeonhwasan
Named for its resemblance to a lotus flower, Yeonhwasan stands as a representative mountain of Goseong.
Located northwest of Goseong-eup, the area encompassing Gaecheon-myeon and Yeonghyeon-myeon was designated as a provincial park in 1989. Okcheonsa Temple is an ancient temple with a thousand-year history and one of the ten major Hwaeom temples featuring an elaborate monastic layout.
Climbing Yeonhwasan offers a panoramic view to the east of the indigo sea of Danghangpo Port, as well as the sight of Okcheonsa Temple nestled among the continuous ridges and its Buddhist Relics Museum. With its gentle terrain and well-maintained trails, hikers can enjoy a relaxed trek.
Located 12km northwest of Goseong-eup along Amcheon Stream, the mountain consists of three peaks: Ongnyeobong, Seondobong, and Mangseonbong. On the northern slopes lie the historic Okcheonsa Temple and hermitages such as Baengnyeonam, Cheongyeonam, and Yeondaeam. Its famous local specialties include pine mushrooms and wild raspberries.
Okcheonsaem Spring, located behind the Daeungjeon Hall of Okcheonsa Temple, never dries up throughout the four seasons and maintains a constant water volume and temperature. The water is reputed to be effective for gastrointestinal and skin disorders. In 1948, the Okcheongak Pavilion was built over the spring to preserve it.
